According to the Tribune’s summary of the study, both “blue” and “white” collar workers in both management and non-management roles have overall reported “no adverse employment outcomes.” Believe it or not, “having one or more tattoos was associated with slightly higher employment and more hours worked,” according to the study. The Daily Mail newspaper adds that 40 percent of today’s “young adults” have at least one tattoo. As a result, a hiring manager would find themselves at a “competitive disadvantage for the most qualified employees” if ink on the skin was viewed as a non-starter. Tattoo artists who’ve been around for a while have probably heard plenty of comments from clients who wanted something “small” or “conservative” that could be covered up by long sleeves in a pinch. These days may be dwindling, as more and more people are seeing tattoos as “expressions of creativity and commemorations of life events.”
